Wet Rot: Services

What Is Wet Rot?

Wet rot is a form of timber decay which is caused by fungal growth due to damp conditions. This may be due to water ingress or timbers being in direct contact with damp walls.

It can grow anywhere in the property and can cause serious damage to the structural integrity of your property if left untreated.

How Can I Tell If My House Has Wet Rot?

Common signs of wet rot include;
- Softened timber
- Excessive movement in timber
- "Springy" feeling floors
- Fungal growth
- Flaking of paint
- Brittle or cracking timber
- Fusty odour and a change in colour of the timber.

What Can Derbyshire Damp Services Do To Help?

Treatment will vary depending on the source of the moisture that is feeding the attack. Our surveyor will identify the cause and advise on the best way to fix the problem. If structural weakening has occurred, it may be necessary to remove and replace affected timber. Any remaining timber can be treated with a chemical fungicide.
